In the realm of Hindustani classical vocal music, Pandit Sangameshwar Gurav is most widely identified as one of the best exponents of Kirana Gharana.

Pt. Gurav had his education in music under his father Shri. Ganapatrao Gurav, who was direct disciple of Bhaskar Buva Bhakle and Abdul Karimkhan Saheb. He was also fortunate to receive training from Behere Buva.

Pandit Gurav is gifted with a very sweet voice and has his own individualistic style of Kirana Gharana. He is master of Murkhi and speed taans. He has an aesthetic approach to the development.

Pt. Sangameshwar Gurav has created four ragas, namely Gouriphar, Sangam, Rudra and Garagaja, and has presented them in several concerts and has won the minds of the listeners and critics.

Pandit Gurav has participated in almost all big musical conferences throughout India. His musical performance has also been broadcasted on Doordarshan and A.I.R. throughout India. His H.M.V. Discs of Kannada Bhajans are very famous. He has also served as a Professor in the Department of Music, Karnataka University, Dharwad.

His enormous contribution to Indian Music was recognized with many Awards including Central Academy Award by Central Govt., State Academy Award by Govt. of Karnataka, Rajya Sangeeth Vidwan Puraskar by Govt. of Karnataka, Kirana Gharana Award by Ustad Faiyaz Ahmed Khan Memorial Trust, Mumbai and Puttaraj Gawai Prashasti 2004.
